Nigeria now ranked 37th in the FIFA rankings

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have moved a step down to 37th in the latest monthly FIFA rankings released on Thursday.

Nigeria was ranked 36th last month, but had to finish the year in 37th position, after amassing a total of 710 points.

However their position of fourth in Africa remained unchanged, with Ivory Coast,Ghana and Algeria the three best placed countries on the continent.

Despite comfortably qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and having an all round impressive 2013 calendar, the position of the Super Eagles on the rankings does not seem to tally with the results they got this year.

In the overall rankings in the world, the top fifteen countries maintained their positions from last month, with Spain still leading the pack on the summit in first.

It is the sixth time in a row that Spain would be finishing the year as the best ranked team in the world, which started in 2008.
