Dzeko's brace draws City closer to Tittle
An Edin Dzeko brace propelled Manchester City
closer to Premier League glory as Manuel
Pellegrini’s men came from behind to beat Everton
3-2 at Goodison Park this evening.
The win for City puts them ahead of Liverpool on
goal difference with just two games left to play this
season.
The game started off slowly but exploded into life in
the 21st minute when England international Ross
Barkley fired the Toffees into the lead with a suplime
strike.
The goal came after some good build-up play from
Everton which led to Steven Naismith teeing up
Barkley who unleashed an unstoppable curling strike
from 25 yards past City keeper Joe Hart.
Roberto Martinez’s men continued to pressure City
and thought they should have had a penalty in the
20th minute but referee Lee Probert turned down
their appeals.
Moments after their penalty claim Sergio Aguero
levelled the scores when he fired past Tim Howard
at his near post.
That goal proved to be Aguero’s last contribution to
the game as the Argentinean limped off with a groin
injury just minutes later.
The game quietened down and neither side created
any more chances until the 43rd minute when Edin
Dzeko headed City into the lead after getting on the
end of a James Milner cross.
Manuel Pellegrini’s men started the second half as
they ended the first and two minutes in, Dzeko
increased the Citizens lead when he tapped home
from a Samir Nasri cross.
Everton pulled a goal back in the 64th minute
through Romelu Lukaku when the Belgian got on the
end of a Leighton Baines cross and headed home
but the Toffees couldn’t manage to find an equaliser
and halt City’s run to the top of the table.
