Liverpool to make January move for Eredivisie ace

Liverpool are ready to launch a January raid for FC Twente forward Luc Castaignos, according to reports from The Metro.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is believed to be ready to delve into the transfer market in the New Year, and has made attacking reinforcements a priority after realising the threadbare nature of his front-line following Daniel Sturridge’s injury.

The 21-year-old has been earning rave reviews for his performances in the Dutch top flight, where he is being hailed as one of the division’s top emerging stars.

Brendan Rodgers is thought to see the Dutchman as the ideal player to fit with his current playing philosophy, and is confident that he can help to rebuild his career after a poor spell with Inter Milan.

Castaignos left his homeland as a teenager to join the Italian giants, but returned just 18 months later after failing to make an impact in Serie A.

His second spell in the Eredivisie has been a fruitful one, with the starlet having already netted on seven occasions this season.

Liverpool are thought to be ready to sanction a £6m offer over the winter, and are confident that they can lure Castaignos to Anfield.

He is likely to play a back-up role to Sturridge and Luis Suarez, which could further throw summer arrival Iago Aspas’ future at the club into doubt.
