Only Keshi decides who goes to Brasil -NFF
The member, Emeka Inyama, on Monday in Umuahia said that the association had no plan to interfere with the job of the coaching crew.
He said the association had entirely left the decision of who would make the squad for the World Cup entirely that of the technical crew.
“Stephen Keshi is in charge. So, he decides who to take to the World Cup,” Inyama, who is also Chairman of NFA’s Media and Publicity Committee, said.
He said the outcome of the just-concluded 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN) where the Super Eagles finished third would not be a parameter to judge the competence of the coach.
“We are satisfied with the coaching crew and players. This is our first time in CHAN. The last time in 2011 we were not there. Even we were not at the first edition in 2009.
“Though we wanted to win the 2014 championship, but that did not work out.
“The boys made a good effort. Nigerians should remember that the team was put together in two months. So, they have done well,” Inyama said.
The home-based Eagles coached by Keshi had lost in the semi-finals of the competition in South Africa, but had gone on to win the third-place match.
Inyama said the NFA was satisfied with the outcome of the competition and would rather reflect on the positives rather than bother on the inability to win the main trophy.
He said the association would continue to give the coaching crew the enabling environment to perform optimally, saying the 2014 World Cup would see the Super Eagles at their best.
“The positives we should derive from our CHAN appearance is that we should invest more in the Nigerian league.
“We should believe more in our league because the foundation of the Nigerian league, be it now or in the future, lies with the quality of the players we parade from the Premier or Nation-Wide League,” Inyama, who is chairman of Premier League side Abia Warriors FC of Umuahia, said.(NAN)
