Wenger calls for fair officiating
Arsene Wenger is hopeful that questionable calls from officials will not taint the Gunners’ Champions League clash against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.
Arsenal have found themselves on the wrong side of a few wrong calls from officials in recent times and Wenger is well aware that a poor decision can change the complexion of a game just as the red card earned by Wojciech Szczesny turned the first leg in favour of Bayern.
Norwegian referee Svein Oddvar is taking charge of Tuesday’s clash, and at 35, Oddvar is the one the youngest officials with UEFA’s top classification.
Speaking in the build up to the match, Wenger said he was hopeful that having an inexperienced referee doing duty will not result in a game-changing decision.
Wenger said: “What we want is a good referee and the closer they are to the tough leagues, the more chances they have to detect the tricks that can decide the game. But that is the same for Bayern, because I talk about my players and the Bayern players.
“To find that kind of balance, the experience of the referee is important.”
