Alcantara could be out of the World Cup
Spain star Thiago Alcantara could be out of the
World Cup after his recovery from a knee injury
suffered a setback.
The Bayern Munich ace is out of Saturday’s German
Cup Final against Borussia Dortmund, according to
reports from Spanish radio station Cadena COPE.
Thiago, who joined the German Champions from
Barcelona last summer, had been named in Vicente
del Bosque’s provisional 30-man World Cup squad.
But the 23-year-old has failed to recover from an
injury picked up against Hoffenheim at the end of
March.
The problem was supposed to keep him out for
around a month but he has not played in the last six
weeks, and now looks doubtful to play any part in
Brazil.
Spain’s squad included few surprises, but the World
and European champions have four payers currently
nursing injuries, with Manchester City’s Jesus Navas
and Barcelona duo Jordi Alba and Gerard Pique all
picking up knocks towards the end of the season.
