Omeruo aiming to reach World Cup semi-finals

Chelsea and Nigeria defender Kenneth Omeruo is
tipping the Super Eagles to become the first African
side to progress to the semi-finals of the World Cup.
Stephen Keshi’s team will head to Brazil in June for
football’s grandest tournament, where they find
themselves in Group F, alongside Argentina, Bosnia
and Herzegovina and Iran.
And although the quarter-finals are the furthest any
African team has gone in the competition, Omeruo
believes the Nigerian national team are primed for a
record-breaking run in South America.
“I’m hoping we’ll get to the final. But I think at least
the semi-finals,” Omeruo told FIFA’s official website.
Omerou recently enjoyed a good season with
Middlesbrough after joining the Championship outfit
on loan from Chelsea, and the defender has moved
to thank those who helped him during his time at
the Riverside Stadium.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Middlesbrough. I
knew that if I had the chance to play I would keep
the position,” he said.
“I would like to thank the club, the manager
especially for believing in me and playing me. I’m
happy that I didn’t disappoint him.
“I knew I had to play games to be fit for the World
Cup and also to make the squad. It’s been a really
good season for me.”
