Arsenal plotting January swoop for Atletico Madrid hitman Diego Costa
The Gunners yesterday sent chief scout Steve Rowley to the Vicente Calderon to run the rule over the 25-year-old as he lines up against Sant Andreu in tonight’s Copa Del Rey clash and again in the weekend visit of Levante.
Costa, who has 22 goals to his name this season, signed a contract extension at Atletico in the summer but it’s believed a buy-out clause was inserted in the deal which could see the Spaniard leave for a figure of around £32million.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen to add to his attacking options having missed out on Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain during the summer transfer window.
However, Wenger will face stiff opposition for the Atletico hitman with many of Europe’s top clubs ready to make a move should the striker decide he wants a fresh challenge.
